THE PATH OF... "EVA"

"The extravehicular suit, or EVA, short for its name in English, protects humans from the heat, cold, radiation, and lack of atmospheric pressure of space outside the spacecraft or space station."

What better name, then, than that? What would we give to have on our rugged life journey a suit like that, one that protects us from everything?

EVA is my first animation project, and, like its protagonist, it has led me to explore all the paths that open up with each question to achieve it.

Initially, it was going to be just a pilot of a couple of minutes, a scene... and with the tools I mastered back then: After Effects with its Element 3D plugin. After a year of work and a product of 11 minutes (EVA 1), I felt that I had to continue developing this story with the new tools I was getting to know.

That's how I discovered UNREAL and REALLUSION. Their main advantages: their assets from the Marketplace, Unreal's real-time rendering engine, the connectivity between Unreal and Reallusion. The ease of creating characters with Reallusion (Character Creator 4)...

All those tools allowed me to start telling the story with a minimal budget, supplementing animations with mocap through video or using libraries. So, I started developing episodes, eventually making 17 in a couple of years.

Each chapter serves me to face different challenges: the script, pre-production, creating scenarios, EVA's hair, facial animation, cameras, lighting, scenes, organizing shots... everything, until finally editing video and audio.

But not only what happens through the software and my computer, but also connecting with other professionals in the industry and continuing to walk this path until achieving the most professional product possible of EVA along with Unreal and Reallusion.

I share all this experience through my channel, with a free course for all those who want to walk the same path.

"... A strange particle arrives on Earth, and upon deciphering it, scientists claim to have found the DNA of a human named EVA, along with a series of instructions to build new technology.

Following these guidelines, EVA is incorporated into one of these new machines and confined to a deep sleep, as the new technology is supposed to function with her.

Upon awakening, she discovers that many more humans have been subjected to the same process. She suspects that a long time has passed, but she is unaware of the true reason and why everyone obeyed that order. She only had visions in her dreams of a destroyed Earth.

She decides to escape from that maximum-security complex guarded by unknown technology and explore the panorama presented on the surface. In order to find... the answers to what she does not know "

TRAILERS

These are the EVA trailers that I created for the company Plask, dedicated to video motion capture, and with which they presented their software during the month of March 2023. The idea was to demonstrate that a single person, with this workflow (Plask, Mixamo, Unreal and Reallusion), has the necessary resources to generate an animation project.

Alejandro De Pasquale

I'm a digital compositor who works in the different parts of the creative process. I use Adobe suite, mainly After Effects for Motion Graphics, along with other 3D tools (3DStudio Max, Cinema4D). I have recently started to use Unreal Engine, which has opened all my creative perspectives.
I ventured into this field when I discovered an edit bay while I was writing a long-feature script for Cinered Films. At that moment I decided I didn't just like to tell stories through the written word, but also by using these digital tools.

That was the year (2004) I dabbled in video editing. Then, in 2008, I started in Motion Graphics with After Effects. And I have used it as my main tool for years.

I've worked with DAC (Argentinian filmmakers) as a Motion Graphics designer, making all the animated bumpers (opening, closing, videograph, etc.) for the show Directores.

Besides, I've also done freelance jobs for Domika Latam advertising agency and La Mara film production company. I've also taken on several audiovisual jobs (movie trailers, instructive videos, book covers...).

In 2021, I joined Plask (motion capture through video) to create content and tutorials for social media.

My passion for writing has given birth to a second story, now in form of a novel: Estoy en un proyecto.

I have also discovered I really enjoy sharing what I've learned. So I've decided to share it on my YouTube channel and the educational platform Planeta CG.

As a personal project, I've made the short film EVA using After Effects, Element 3D, Daz 3D, Mixamo and Fuse. In the beginning I had approached the project as if it were my thesis, in order to apply everything I knew.

Once that animated short film was finished, I realized it would be a long-term project. I'm currently making a second part using Unreal and the workflow with Reallusion suite.

ACCOMPANY EVA ON THIS JOURNEY...

One of the best aspects of tackling a project like this is discovering such talented people who are willing to be part of it.

Although for this part of the project I couldn't count on animators or other people who could replicate part of my work, there were two aspects that I considered vital:

The voices of the characters and a soundtrack that identified the story.

So these are my collaborators in these areas

Virginia Ferreyra

Argentinian singer-songwriter. Daughter of singer and guitarist JAF (ex RIFF), she first stepped on a stage at the age of seven, invited by her father. Since then, she has participated in numerous shows, some in emblematic Argentine stages such as the Gran Rex or the Gran Rivadavia.

In 2015 her first solo show took place. The setlist included covers of her greatest musical references (Dio, Led Zeppelin, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, among others) as well as original songs, which follow the folk-rock line.

Since then, the original songs have been added to the list in greater numbers.

In 2017 she began to perform in a trio format and it was also the year of recording her debut EP: Virginia Ferreyra, which contains two original studio recordings: "Palabras mudas" and "Bienvenido a la sociedad", presented in February 2018.
